Between Traditions

Between Traditions is part of a series that also consists of Tradition No.8, Reality Foam 002 and Stool 002, all showcased in the 2011 exhibition “CONTEMPORARY TRADITIONS” by Sven Schelwach at Gallery SoSo in Heyri Art Valley, South Korea. Between Traditions is a combination of styles and functionality. Using similar design elements as the aforementioned pieces, the work on display functions both as a Korean dining table and a coffee table, with unique, modern and clear lines. The table top, made of warm colored hardwood, appears to be floating, on high-end stainless steel legs. “Dong-baek kirim”, a natural oil, traditionally used in Korea for furniture, was applied as finish. It seals the wood and adds a subtle and silky shine.

Demanding attention, yet blending in with the rest of the interior, Between Traditions is a statement on contemporary, traditional inspired design. The dimension of this table is 108 x 68 x 32 cm, but can also be customized upon request.

Stool 001 / 002

Stool 001 was conceived in 2008 as a postmodern, industrial interpretation of an everyday item. Minimalistic yet exceptional, Stool 001 is handmade out of stainless steel, with the size 56 x 48 x 48 cm.  This exclusive design piece is available with a white felt seat-contact surface or a black rubber foam surface.

The versatile stool concept was further developed in 2011 with Stool 002, which follows the same contours, but uses a square profile stainless steel tube – and comes in the measurements 38 x 38 x 40 cm.

Reality Foam 001 / 002

Reality Foam provides an apparently simple concept with an almost unlimited variety of designs. The single shelves can be designed along your imagination – from square forms to convex symmetrical forms to asymmetrical shapes, from classic style to avantgarde – your creativity has almost no limits on this unique item.
This bookshelf concept was developed in 1995 with a stereo rack, and adapted to the Reality Foam 001 in 1997. Using the same construction method and hybrid material mix, Reality Foam 002 was created in 2011.
For Reality Foam 001 we used a light softwood, whereas Reality Foam 002 was created with a dark brown hardwood. The dimensions are variable. In this case 183 x 110 x 36 cm.

Tradition No.8

Tradition No. 8 is a bistro table combining elements from modern, simple syles and traditional Korean furniture, as well as architectural parts. The base of the table is made entirely from stainless steel, the table top is made of hardwood. The connection pieces are used as design points integrated into the table’s surface.

The table has 8 corners and columns to support it, as a symbol of wellbeing and prosperity – as the number 8 has these connotations in ancient Asia. The title reflects this concept. Size: 55 x 55 x 65cm.

Serpent

The Serpent table combines the cool charisma of stainless steel with the warmth of amber-hued wood. The tabletop appears to be weightless, yet it is evergrounded. The frame looks as if modeled from one piece, mirroring the image of a snake, curling through space.

Serpent was created 2008 on the quest to find an extraordinary desk, that represents something unique at the first glance. This piece was inspired by Max Longin’s bed float, and comes with the measurements 180 x 90 x 73 cm. The tabletop is made of beech in this case, but can be customized upon request.

Wineholder

The Wineholder Series is an almost sculptural approach to the quest for storing wine bottles in an exceptional way. The wine bottles are placed within the sculpture, and become a focal point of every room. Due to a soft angle of 23 degrees the wine bottles are stored perfectly, keeping the cork wet at all times. The wood is carved by hand, sanded meticulously, and finished with oil or barnish.

Wineholder 001, 002, 003, 004, 005, and 006 are part of this series of wine racks. The first two pieces are made of walnut wood and stainless steel. The Wineholder 003 is made of cherry wood combined with stainless steel. Wineholder 004 and 006 are made from walnut, with wineholder 006 coming including stainless steel wall fixture. Wineholder 005 was created using oak wood, the base is stainless steel as well. Other woodtypes, such as ash, or beech are available as well.
